At the time of my diagnosis, I, also, suffered from a bleeding disorder associated with the leukemia.  The bone marrow biopsy was very painful during the extraction.  Once the marrow was removed, the pain was minimal.  Due to the bleeding disorder, the nurse was unable to stop the bleeding at the biopsy site.  I laid with pressure to the site for approximately one hour.  At that point, my oncologist was called and meds were injected to stop the bleeding.

I have had to undergo several bone marrow biopsies since I was diagnosed with CML in 2001. They are not pleasant. Unfortunately they are a necessary evil in order to deal with my disease. I have learned to deal with this through some mental preparation. One can overcome the fear and anxiety through acceptance of the fact that this has to be done in order to survive my disease, and just accepting that fact about my life, even though I cannot control it, is something I can deal with and continue to endure.Over the years it has become easier but not less painful. Fortunately I only have to havethem every 2 years now. To anyone who is going to have a bone marrow biopsy, you can do it and make it through! It's hard but just remember your survival depends on it. Keep up the fight and keep the  right attitude and you can survive as long as I have, although I am still not going anywhere!!!!!
