No medical advice should ever be given without the advice-

"See your doctor."

You did not state your husbands age, if he is older than forty the above advice is all the more important.

Acid reflux disease, gastric ulcers, chest pain, are all worrisom,

painful, and often misunderstood.  Acid reflux disease was at one time a disease that took to many lives.  Misunderstood people attributed it to poor diet, or spicy diet, overeating, drinking too much alcohol, or "laying" back too much.  All these "habits" of course increased the discomfort, and then made the environment of the disease more welcoming.  The trachea inflamed, the inflammation spreads, and soon the trachea is "soresom".  It became fatal as the trachea inflamed and soresom soon was unable to help the lungs get sufficient oxygen, then the "bland" diet that was prescribed soon could not pass well to be digested well.   Today this condition responds well to prescription medication, the standard advice for improving eating, drinking, and lifestyle.  See your doctor.

Gastric ulcers are very overwhelmingly and once were virtually untreatable except for some success of surgery.  Today prescription medications are able to help the human body defend against histamines.  Gastric ulcers are an allergic reaction.  See your doctor.

Chest pains can run the range of the irrelevent to the very serious.  See your doctor.

Acid reflux & hiatal hernia can both be surgically fixed in an outpatient facility. Both will be less severe if he avoids the following:  caffeine, coffee, carbonated beverages, chocolate, kidney beans, navy beans, peanuts, tomatoes, canteloupe, corn, cabbage, broccoli, peppers, citrus, hot spices and sauces and drinks sips of water frequently to reduce the acid. Eating small snackds often helps dilute the acid also.

He might want to take OTC drugs~Rolaids, Tums, acid reducers, prilosec etc to reduce stomach acid. Sleeping with pillows propping him up will prevent the acid from coming up into his throat.  Avoid bending over after eating meals. dont;' smoke on an empty stomach.
