  There is now a timed release Exelon patch and Aricept has a patch in the works for 2010 that will be able to give a larger dosage than one taken by mouth. This will be helpful for those people who have difficulty swallowing pills or don't want to take pills.

  If you feel that you are showing signs of dementia that might be Alzheimer's, you should begin medication immediately to slow down the progression of the disease by as much as three years. This will buy you valuble time whlie resarch is going on to find a cure. The workings of these drugs are so subtle it is really diicult to say whether anyone is showing any benefit from them or not. In my case, my husband is going on ten years and is still functioning well, has very little short term memory, but has not advanced, as yet, into any later stage symptons.

  My husband has been on Exelon and Namenda fr about nine years. He was involved in the original clinical studies at Radiant Technologies in Denver before they were approved by the FDA. Aricept was approved before Exelon. I do not understand why peole say that Aricept was not working and they changed to Namenda. They are two different drugs that d different thing. Most advice is that y0u should take Namenda in conjunction with Aricept or Exelon. The strongest advice seems to be that you start taking medication as soon as yo have been diagnosed

We had this done to help stage my Dad's ALZ.  It was helpful becuase it gave us a baseline.  Since his medi-gap insurance policy did not cover the, we shopped around and found a great place where we could get it done for under $700.  I know a bit about imaging and Alz so feel free to message me if you have any questions.

This drug seemed to help my Dad - he didn't really get any worse since he went on the drug.  Although it was an expensive drug, we wanted to give him everything we could to help.
