MRI is suppose to be good for observing liver tumors.
The recovery from surgery is tough for a while, even when all goes well. I was never in much pain, but I did have an epidural for about 5 days which would explain that. Two weeks after surgery I began to feel human again.
My body functioned fine after I recovered. I can eat well and exercise and lead a normal life. I believe this surgery will have a huge positive impact on my ability to live longer and more vitally than if I had not had it.
I have not had intense carcinoid syndrome, so it is more difficult to determine how it is helping my symptoms. I still have diarrhea from time to time, but the Sandostatin itself causes diarrhea, so I don't know if it is the carcinoid or the Sandostatin.
I do have liver tumors which continue to grow, even with the Sandostatin, but my understanding is that the Sandostatin is probably slowing the growth rate.
Getting a full and correctly administered injection is a problem with the procedure, even when the nurses have been fully trained. Novartis needs to improve the administration of this drug.
