As a General step regarding Alzheimer's by Pruts

We're coming into the final stretch, and we expect that in the next week or so we will start seeing actual legislative proposals for health care reform.

After a brief recess for Memorial Day, Congress is returning this/next week for what will be a grueling month of legislative activity.  As we must keep the pressure on them, AFA is participating in another Congressional Call-In Day on Thursday, June 4.

On Thursday, June 4 beginning at 9 a.m. Eastern, please call toll-free to (866) 281-7219. The system will ask you to say your state name and then transfer you to one of your Senators.  When you get through, tell your Senator that inclusion of long-term services and supports in health reform is a must for individuals facing dementia, their caregivers and families.

We hope you will forward this email to others. Please note: phone lines are open only on Thursday June 4 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time.

Be Cautious About Food

As a General step regarding Alzheimer's by Pruts

Be cautious about foods

Early on I learned that I had to clean out the refrigerator every other day.

Husband had no idea what was fresh and outdated. He ate whatever was in front of him.

Moldy bread I have to watch about too but I was surprised and did not think about my coffeee pot. I had soaked it in special soap for the night, he got up and poured himself a cup of soapy water and started to drink. I just walked into the kitchen when he made a terrible face. Checked what was in his cup and almost had a heart attack.

I thought after 11 years that I knew it all but I did not think of that one.!!!!!

Celexa

The day care would not take him in if he did not become less agitated.

They told us to get him on Lexapro. The VA does not give out Lexapro so they gave him Celexa and he is calmer.

He is behaving at the Day Care, but does not become a social person neither.

It makes him perhaps too calm as since then he has had a lot of bed wetting.

Namenda

A doctor in Belgium told me that after a certain time period they stop giving the Namenda because it will also start to make the patient more violent.

I have asked American doctors and did not get that reaction.

At this point nearing stage 7 I am a bit concerned because my husband is showing more signs of possibly becoming violent.

Response to message: "I am sure it took a lot of courage to post your decency question. Thanks for trusting in the community. These are real things. I am sure you are not alone. David - DXJ co-founder"

As a Response step regarding Alzheimer's by Pruts

Thank you, David, for your response.

Unfortunately after all the reading I have done on dementia/Alzheimer this problem is quite common.

We do have to address it.

We have to live with it and it has nothing to do with the past. Nothing at all to do with being "dirty old men".
