When my husband began chemotherapy we had no idea what to expect. I have found that on chemo weeks we have a breather week. The steroids prescribed that week seem to take almost all the pain away and for five days it's almost like the cancer isn't there. Most recently he has had a horrible reaction the last two times the port was accessed and we found that he has gram negative and e coli bacteria in the blood surrounding the port. The culture drawn from the arm was good but from the port there was bacteria. I am at a loss on how that happened but as a result of the last reaction he could not get his Rituxin this past round. I am amazed at how different without the one drug the last couple weeks have been. There has been significantly more joint pain and discomfort than when he does have it. I am anxious next week to see if the doctor feels there is a connection.
